Elena Walch – Cuvée Kermesse Rosso 2019 – 1.5L OWC

Alto Adige (South Tyrol), Italy – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Lagrein, Syrah, Petit Verdot

A powerful and elegant red blend from the mountains of South Tyrol

The Cuvée Kermesse Rosso 2019 is the red counterpart to Elena Walch's iconic white wine “Beyond The Clouds”. This Grande Cuvée combines five grape varieties into a harmonious and complex wine with an impressive aging potential. The grapes come from steep chalky soils with clay and sand veins at an altitude of 350 meters. Most of the grapes are harvested on the same day and vinified together, with the exception of the later maturing Cabernet Sauvignon. After a fermentation of about 10 days in stainless steel tanks, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and then matures for 18 months in French oak barriques (Limousin and Allier), most of which are new. This is followed by a bottle aging of several months before the wine is released onto the market.

Tasting notes
Deep ruby red with a light edge. The nose offers an intense and layered bouquet of light, smoky tobacco, pepper, chocolate, red berries, wild berries and dried figs. In the mouth powerful, but elegant and harmonious, with well-integrated tannins, delicate toasted aromas and a spicy fullness. The finish is long and refined.

Food pairing
Excellent with a wide range of meat and game dishes. Think of grilled red meat, game dishes, lamb and mature cheeses

“Intense ruby red with a light edge. Mainly resinous in the nose, somewhat reserved, then hints of sealing wax, leather and dark berries. In the mouth with good structure and spiciness, slightly spicy, with a certain juiciness, slightly drying in the aftertaste.”

Vinification & Maturation
The grapes are harvested by hand. All grape varieties, except the later maturing Cabernet Sauvignon, are harvested on the same day and vinified together. The must ferments for about 10 days in stainless steel tanks, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 18 months in French oak barriques (Limousin and Allier), most of which are new.
