A rare Alto Adige Pinot Noir with Burgundian allure

Elena Walch’s Aton Pinot Noir Riserva 2018 is one of the most exclusive expressions of Pinot Noir from Northern Italy. Sourced from steep slopes at 400–600 metres altitude in Glen and Barleith, where old vines grow on chalky and marly soils, this wine is a paragon of elegance, depth and terroir. With only 2,788 bottles produced, this Riserva is a true collector’s item.

Tasting notes

In the glass, the wine presents itself with a bright ruby red color. The nose is refined and complex, with aromas of blackcurrant, a hint of licorice and subtle smoky notes. In the mouth, the wine is elegant and fresh, with polished fruit, still youthful tannins and a long, spicy finish.

Reviews & Awards

  • Falstaff: 96 points
"Elegant, bright ruby red. In the nose subtle notes of cranberries, wet pebbles, juicy blood oranges, wild strawberries, a little cold tea. Elegant and fresh in the mouth, with polished fruit, still some young tannins at the moment, beautifully long."

  • Decanter: 94 points
"2018 is only the second vintage of this Riserva, coming from one eastern and two western plots, between 400 and 600 metres altitude."

  • Wine Spectator: 93 points

  • Vivino: Average rating of 4.3 stars (based on 25 reviews)
