Deep ruby red with garnet reflections. On the nose aromas of rose petals, wild berries, camphor and undergrowth. On the palate powerful and structured with notes of Marasca cherry, blood orange and star anise, framed by fine, tense tannins.

Food pairing
Excellent with dishes such as ossobuco, risotto with mushrooms or truffle, game dishes and mature hard cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano.

Reviews & Awards

  • 95 pointsWine Enthusiast (Kerin O'Keefe): “Fragrant and refined, this opens with heady scents of wild berry, rose petal, camphor and underbrush. Elegantly structured, the polished palate offers ripe Marasca cherry, blood orange and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins.”

  • 95 pointsRobert Parker's Wine Advocate : “The Gaja 2017 Barbaresco is nuanced and delicate with ever-expanding aromatic intensity that amply fills the balloon of your glass. The wine takes a little while to open fully, and it slowly releases forest berry, powdered licorice, toasted aniseed, spearmint, dried lavender and rosemary essence to build a lasting bouquet.”

  • 95 pointsFalstaff (Othmar Kiem & Simon Staffler): “Emphatic savory notes of cloves, some roses and lots of juicy cherry on the nose. Round and supple fruit concentration on the palate, opens up further with vivid, crisp tannins, very well integrated fresh acidity and a firm focused drive to the finish.”

  • Vinification & Maturation
The grapes are harvested by hand and undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures. After malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 12 months in barriques, followed by 12 months in large oak barrels.
