Douro, Portugal – Blend of traditional grape varieties
A classic Vintage Port with impressive depth and elegance
The Taylor's Vintage Port 2016 is an exceptional wine, originating from the renowned vineyards Quinta de Vargellas, Quinta de Terra Feita and Quinta do Junco. This vintage is characterized by its deep, almost opaque purple color and an intense aromatic profile.
Tasting notes
On the nose an explosion of powerful forest fruits, with lively accents of green apple, fresh plums and raspberries. The bouquet is further enriched with floral hints of violets and rose petals, as well as exotic notes of cedar and jasmine. On the palate the wine presents itself with beautifully ripe tannins that integrate perfectly into the mid-palate, which offers both structure and volume. The finish is powerful and complex, with an endless stream of fresh fruit.
Food pairing
This Vintage Port is ideally suited as a digestif and combines well with blue cheeses such as Stilton or Gorgonzola. Serve at a temperature of 16–18°C. Decant before serving to allow the wine to fully develop.
Reviews & Awards
-
100 points – James Suckling : "This is truly the most amazing young Taylor's I've ever tasted. Full bodied and slightly sweet with super power and intensity. So punchy and focused. Yet this has so much muscle and intensity. Needs at least eight years to show all it has to offer."
-
98 points – Wine Enthusiast : "Ripe, structured and also fruity, this intense, perfumed Port is opulent yet elegant. The tannins and great fruit are finely integrated and rich with potential."
-
97 points – Vinous (Neal Martin) : “The 2016 Vintage Port has an aristocratic bouquet with tightly wound aromas of blackberry, blueberry, crushed stone, black olive and a light, marine tinge, perhaps almost peaty.”
-
96 points – Robert Parker's Wine Advocate : "The 2016 Vintage Port is a field blend that will be bottled approximately one week after this tasting. It was the final blend. It was matured in wood for 20 months and has 102 grams of residual sugar."
Vinification & Maturation
The grapes were harvested by hand from old vines in the Douro Valley. After fermentation, the wine was aged in wooden barrels for about 20 months, which contributed to its complexity and structure. The wine was bottled in 2018.
